Good to know

We are 4 adults who have lived on this land growing our own food and medicine for over 20 years. Our 160 acre property is off-grid, but we have a robust solar and hydro-electric energy system that provides power 24 hours a day. The space includes a full kitchen with gas stove, fridge, bathroom with large tub and shower, bedroom with a Queen size bed and a living room with a pull out couch for extra guests. The tall canopy of redwood trees around the house allow plenty of light to get in while keeping it naturally air conditioned. There is heat, hot water, coffee maker with coffee and tea provided, pots, pans, plates, cups, utensils, linens, towels, soaps and shampoo all here. Outside, you are welcome to enjoy the additional outdoor spiral shower, large hot tub under the stars, and walking trails to the end of our 160 acre property. Please note, the hot tub is shared. Our farm is located 10 min drive outside of Garberville. It is easy to get to but you need your own car. Our drive way is a 2 mile dirt road in excellent condition. There is one steep hill that can be difficult for some 2WD cars to get up. If you have AWD or 4WD please use it as it helps protect the road. PRO TIP: Don't stop while going uphill! If you have a low-clearance vehicle, you might want to drive a little off-center as the road has a little hump in the middle in some places. Please message us if you have any questions. We'd be happy to chat with you!

House rules

WELCOME! We are very happy to host you! We recently renovated this little house where we lived for the past 20 years. We hope you find it as charming as we do. We now live in the big house next door with our housemate, Ernesto. Feel free to reach out if you have any issues with anything. The WIFI Network: StarrLink | No password KEEPING IT COOL The natural shade of the redwood trees around the house keep it cool in the daytime. The trick is to open the windows at night, and close them in the morning. That way the heat of the day stays out and it remains cool inside all the time. ELECTRICITY We are entirely off-grid, meaning all of our electricity comes from solar power in the summer and hydro-electric power in the winter. At night, the electricity comes from energy stores in battery packs, so electricity is a finite resource here at night. If we use more than what the batteries have stored, the back up generator may go on. It is loud and annoying. For this reason, please charge your devices during the day, not overnight. And please be careful to turn off all overhead lights when you leave a room. HOT TUB Erez, our resident genius, converted our electric hot tub to run on an external propane heater. It still uses electricity to run its filtration system, but it talks to the external heater to heat the water. So, it has two brains. We ask that you do not press any buttons, do not try changing the temperature, and do not use the jets. It will simply confuse the two brains. We have the hot tub set to run automatically and heat to 104 degrees during these hours: 6:30am - 8am and 8pm - 11pm Please shower before getting in the hot tub and properly wash off any oils, lotions, soaps, or sunscreen you may have on. To open, unlatch clip in front, fold front half OVER the bar and on top of the back half, and then pull both halves back behind the tub. This is easy to do with just one person. Please do not sit on the hot tub cover at any time. The hot tub is shared with other guests who may be here “glamping”. It is first come first serve. Please limit your hot tub time to 1 hour so that others may also enjoy it. TRASH & RECYCLING We are in the woods, and there are critters around. To prevent them from digging through our trash and making a total mess, we need to separate and store garbage in very particular ways. Do not mix food with regular trash. We compost food scraps so please put any food waste inside the composting bucket provided for you under the sink. Be aware, our fruit trees and composting system live inside an electric fence. So approach the orchard with caution. If you fill up a regular trash bag, please coordinate a time with us to come get it from you so that we can dispose of it properly. There are more trash bags for you under the sink if you need them. Please rinse out any recyclables before putting them into the recycling bin under the kitchen sink. Please use the cutting board for cutting, and don’t cut directly on the counter top or island top. There may be other guests on the property so please be respectful of quiet times: 10pm - 10am. Checkout time is 11 am. Don’t worry about stripping the bedding or taking the garbage out. We’ll take care of that. Please do wash your dishes and leave them in the dry rack. Leave the key where you found it on the table outside. We hope you have a fabulous stay and wondrous adventures in Southern Humboldt! ~Ana, Erez, and Ernesto

This place was a sweet little gem tucked away in the forest. Very clean and cozy. And the hot tub after a long day of hiking in the redwoods was a lovely addition.

It’s a great place to stay if you’re into camping but don’t want to do it outdoors. It was a great way to relax and unwind and be away from everything. Plus the views were so nice.
